Pobrecito’s El Callejón is a dangerously smooth triple threat.

photo by Blake BonillasSip your Appletinis and Fuzzy Navels if you must, but when you’re ready to level up and drink like an adult, look no further than El Callejón, a handsome cocktail that combines passion-fruit-tea-infused Wild Turkey 101 Rye with sherry and brandy for a dangerously smooth triple threat. It’s masculine and autumnal, with a faint echo of tannin from the oak-aged brandy and a touch of sweetness from Giffard peach liqueur. Translated as “alleyway” in Spanish – an allusion to the art-filled corridors at the new Churchill food hub in Phoenix, where Pobrecito is located – El Callejón is also fun to look at, served in a lowball with one elegant ice cube, custom-branded by local cocktail company Artisan Ice.

Except for the branded ice, El Callejón is a snap to make. Combine 1 oz. passion-fruit-tea-infused Wild Turkey 101 Rye*, 1 oz. The Christian Bros. Sacred Bond brandy (cognac will work, too), ½ oz. Lustau East India Solera Sherry, ½ oz. Giffard peach liqueur and two dashes of passion fruit bitters in a rocks glass with ice, stir and garnish with orange peel for autumn in a glass.

*Combine 10 grams loose-leaf passion fruit tea with a 1-liter bottle of Wild Turkey 101 Rye. Let infuse at room temperature for one hour. Strain.
