Pedal Haus Brewery

Bring your bike, your dog, your drinking buddies and your appetite to this lively but laid-back bike-themed brewery. Prost this: In its first three years of operation, Pedal Haus has earned 11 industry awards, including a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2017 for its light lager. The house brew you won’t want to miss, however, is the Belgian-style Tripel, which at 9 percent ABV will knock you on your butt in short order. All Pedal Haus beers are $2 off during happy hour, as are starters, which prove more imaginative than the usual brewpub suspects. Think deviled egg dip, bolstered with blue cheese, bacon, smoked paprika and chives, served with Haus-made potato chips ($5); or seriously crunchy cheddar-corn fritters with “srirancha” ($4); or loaded cheese fries, overlaid with beer cheese, mozzarella curds and pickled red onions ($5). 3-6:30 p.m. M-Sa.
Saddle Mountain Brewing Company
15651 W. Roosevelt St., Goodyear
Goodyear’s one and only brewery is running with the big dogs these days, having won the silver medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018 and the gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2017 for its Taildragger Clan-Destine, a Scottish ale with a smooth malt finish. Saddle Mountain offers around 10 house brews on any given day. Happy hour means $1 off all beer, $2 off selected cocktails and $2 off appetizers. Bring a small army for the Brewer’s Nachos, assembled with crispy, house-fried corn chips, savory pork chile verde, beer cheese, cheddar, black beans, sour cream, roasted corn salsa and pico de gallo (a steal at $9). Served with excellent homemade pickles, a pair of “Rachel” sliders – pastrami, Swiss and coleslaw on a pretzel bun slathered with spiked Russian dressing – will make you forget about her brother Reuben ($8). 3-6 p.m. M-F.
SanTan Brewing Company
1525 E. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix
One of the Valley’s oldest and largest craft breweries, SanTan opened its North Central Phoenix location in March. The modern, multi-windowed digs (formerly a Z’Tejas) look nothing like the funky Chandler mothership, but devotees will recognize the half-dozen appetizers specially priced at $7.25, some of them so generously portioned you can eat them as entrées. That’s especially true of heart-unhealthy slingers – five fat, crunchy eggrolls oozing with cream cheese, pepper jack, smoked bacon and jalapeños. Otherwise, the menu sticks to brewpub classics such as buttermilk onion rings and soft pretzels sided with beer cheese and beer mustard. All of it goes well with a dollar-off Mr. Pineapple wheat beer, a perfect hot weather refresher, and a 2011 GABF silver medal winner to boot. 3-6 p.m. M-F.
