Downtown Ocotillo aka Santa Barbara de Chandler

Just west of the heart of Chandler, the master-planned golf community of Ocotillo resides next to beautiful green farmland. Along West Queen Creek Road, a development called Downtown Ocotillo offers a unique variety of restaurants, businesses and shopping destinations. FOUNDING FATHER: Downtown Ocotillo was developed in 2006 by Spike Lawrence of Lawrence & Geyser Development in an effort to bring more life to the area. It opened in 2009. CALIFORNIA COOL: This upscale community was designed with Santa Barbara in mind – lots of Mission-style buildings, tree-lined paths and sprightly water features.

Buffalo Jump Winery
Cody, Wyoming’s first winery struck out west for Chandler last year, setting up an outpost in the Ocotillo ’hood. Sip a sweet Riesling, a velvety Cabernet Franc or a berry-forward rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon (made from California, Oregon, Washington and, now, Arizona grapes) Monday through Saturday, or come for Sip & Paint nights, where guests can take part in a painting class led by an artist and go home with their masterpieces.

The Ocotillo location of Steve Kraus’ expanding coffee empire – now with 10 Valley locations – may be the chicest. Whether you need to perk up with a cappuccino or cool off with a refreshing iced tea, Press Coffee serves plenty of hot and cold items all year long. Their freshly roasted beans come from all over the world – Peru, Ethiopia, Costa Rica and many more.

Rock Lobster
Ocotillo dwellers flock to Rock Lobster for specialty rolls like the “Poppin,” a wicked roll made up of spicy crab and avocado and topped with tempura shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. Along with their rolls, Rock Lobster offers specialty cocktails including the Aloha Sunrise, consisting of house-infused pineapple vodka, pineapple juice, orange juice and a grenadine float.

Leidan Mitchell Salon
Treat yourself to a makeover and a spa day at the Leidan Mitchell Salon, the largest of the three locations in the Valley. The salon draws clientele with its variety of services, including a pain-free, fat-burning, laser liposuction treatment. The two-part system melts inches of fat in minutes. Fun fact: Leidan Mitchell is the “official hair sponsor” of the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders.
