Nestled in the Usery Mountains of eastern Mesa, Las Sendas resides on ranch land formerly owned by Western silent film star Tom Mix. In 1995, architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. broke ground on the community’s much-admired luxury golf course, plotting it around the area’s defining geographical feature, Spook Hill, which was purportedly named by Mix himself. A residential community quickly sprang up around it, populated by families and active seniors lured by athletic facilities, special programs and first-rate hiking. SONORAN SPOTLIGHT: The Usery Mountains consist of a 3,648-acre park that includes 29 miles of hiking, biking and walking trails, a campground and an archery range. GREEN-ERY: Set against the backdrop of the desert, Las Sendas Golf Club was named one of the 2008/2009 Best Places to Play by Golf Digest. P MARKS THE SPOT: Laid by a Boy Scout troop in the 1950s, the legendary Phoenix air marker sits on a hillside in Usery Mountain Park – piles of white rocks spelling out “Phoenix” in 100-foot letters direct airplane pilots west to Sky Harbor.

Red, White & Brew
Despite its name, Red, White & Brew is not a brewery – it’s a wine- and craft beer-centric restaurant with a small but growing selection of local beers, including offerings from the Valley’s Four Peaks Brewing Company and Tucson’s Thunder Canyon Brewery. They offer lunch and dinner menus with seafood, steaks, pasta, pizza and salads. In addition to microbrew drafts, RW&B stocks a variety of wines, mostly from California (no Arizona vintages on the menu yet). For a place to relax after a day at the golf club or to unwind even more after that diamond facial, Red, White & Brew is the perfect stop.
