Just because the Valley’s heating up doesn’t mean you have to. Keep your body cool and cozy with these soothing spa treatments.
What’s one of the few perks of living in the Valley when temperatures reach “terrible?” Summer-inspired spa menus with low prices and creative treatments abound. Here are four of our favorites:
1. Spa Avania at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is offering major relief for locals: Flash an Arizona drivers’ license to get 40 percent off all massages and 30 percent off à la carte facials, body treatments and salon services this summer. To sooth sunburned skin, indulge in an Aloe Green Tea Linen Wrap. Or try the Balinese Scalp and Hair Elixir Infusion – popular among women and men who appreciate the bonus scalp massage – to repair those chlorine-damaged ends. Linen Wrap, 60 minutes, $126; Balinese Scalp Infusion, 45 minutes, $55. 7500 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, Scottsdale, 480-444-1234.
2. The new Aloe Pear Summer Scrub at The Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa was inspired by the hotel’s organic garden. This mild, non-abrasive scrub feels like a frothy lemon meringue and includes organic, cooling aloe gel. Indigenous jojoba beads work to exfoliate; a refreshing desert rain Vichy shower and luscious pear-scented body butter follow. 50 minutes, $150, available through September 18. 34631 N. Tom Darlington Drive, Carefree, 480-595-3500.
3. Relax with a loved one during the Citrus Ritual, which debuts this summer at The Royal Palms Resort Alvadora Spa. A couples suite features two heated stone tables, where you begin with an exfoliating body treatment as water falls from above. Rinse outside under an 8-foot waterfall shower, and proceed to the water garden for a citrus flower whirlpool bath. Then, enjoy a massage with hydrating honey-and-orange-blossom lotion, a towel wrap and a scalp and shoulder massage with neroli aromatherapy oil. 90 minutes, starting at $200. 5200 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, 602-840-3610.
4. Summer isn’t complete without ice cream, and the Tocasierra Spa and Fitness Centre at Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort knows this. Emerging from a major renovation with hip new digs, this neighborhood spa invites the whole family to relax. Kids 12 and under can escape the heat with an Ice Cream Manicure and Pedicure, picking out their favorite flavor – chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, of course – for their hands and feet. Parents, meanwhile, can sit back with a signature Sugar Butter Mani & Pedi. Kids treatment, 50 minutes, $65; adult treatment, $85. 7677 N. 16th St., Phoenix, 602-906-3820.
