Mother-daughter duo Katie and Patty Flanigan cold-press their nutrient-rich, organic Juice Core blends.
Before Katie and Patty Flanigan opened Juice Core in Old Town Scottsdale, they experimented with juicing fresh fruits and vegetables in their garage. The mother and daughter duo were looking for an investment that was meaningful and “just felt good,” Katie says. They started by selling their organic, cold-pressed juices at farmers’ markets around the Valley before opening their shoebox-size Scottsdale store in 2013.
Using a cold press – a hydraulic contraption that slowly presses raw fruits and vegetables to extract juice – the Flanigans produce about 10 different, 100 percent raw, organic juice blends, using seasonal organic produce from local purveyor Boxed Greens. The signature Mother Earth ($7, 8 oz.; $12, 16 oz.), a smooth blend of kale and other leafy greens with ginger and lemon, stays on the menu year-round, as does Skinny Genes ($6, 8 oz.; $10, 16 oz.), a grapefruit-forward mashup with a bold cayenne pepper finish. The juices are artfully combined to produce complex flavor profiles, both sweet and savory, without any added sugar or salt. “There isn’t any heat or oxygen in the process of extraction, so the enzymes stay alive and you get the most amount of nutrients from the juice,” Katie says.
Juice Core also offers five juice cleanse kits, organic coffee drinks, smoothies blended with house-made almond milk and a handful of grab-and-go organic and raw foods, including salads and açaí bowls. Added bonus: Juice Core delivers within a 15-mile radius of the shop.
